Deal For Leeds Star Is Now “Very Close” & Some Fans Wonder Why It Took This Long

|

With Leeds United Managing Director, Angus Kinnear, confirming to the BBC this week that he believed a deal was now incredibly close to being struck with influential player Kalvin Phillips, fans are naturally delighted with that news.

It’s been a long old summer for the 23-year-old with well-stated interest in him from Aston Villa but they were simply unwilling to reach our reported £30million valuation given how important he has proven to be in manager Marcelo Bielsa’s system.

Throughout the whole saga though, the common belief has been that he didn’t want to leave the club and would prefer to stay, it was simply about striking a new agreement for a contract extension.

With claims earlier that a deal had been agreed and would soon be announced, I think plenty of fans got carried away by that and it has maybe led to some concern that simply didn’t exist, but naturally, most will only be content when the signature is on the paper and we have official confirmation now.

But at least the signs continue to appear to be good.

“He deserves a new contract. He is at the very heart of what we want to achieve. He is a local lad and he knows what it means to play for Leeds United. We’ve had very constructive chats with him and his agent and I think we are very close. The credit to him is that he hasn’t let the discussions influence or distract him in any way. He couldn’t have been more committed or focussed and has started the season fantastically.”
