Have we all calmed down after the weekend?
Well hopefully so, we’ve got a long season ahead of us and we don’t want to get too angry too early.
As we pointed out, a lot of fans didn’t seem too happy about the number of chances that Leeds squandered on Saturday. However, it’s possible that they were just caught up in the raw emotion of it all, frustrated by the fact they’d dropped points in their first home game.
Statistically speaking though, the Leeds fans may be onto something here. This tweet from @LUFCDATA shows that whilst United are at or near the top of the league in a number of areas, they rank in the middle when it comes to the conversion rate, with them scoring 17% of the chances they create.
Leeds after 2 Championship matches in 2019/20:
Goals: 4 (3rd)
Shots: 32 (J-1st)
Shots On-Target: 8 (5th)
Chances Created: 26 (1st)
Conversion Rate: 17% (11th)
Possession: 59.1% (2nd)
Passes: 1112 (1st)
Pass Acc: 80.2% (2nd)
Tackles Won: 42 (1st)#LUFC pic.twitter.com/oM8TPRbxj2— LUFCDATA (@LUFCDATA) August 11, 2019
Now whilst it’s still only a two-game sample size, one of the other statistics given, shows that Leeds have created the most chances than any team in the division this season.
So what did United fans think when presented with this evidence?
Quite understandably they doubled down on their anger over the matter, they actually have the evidence to back it up now.
De-ja-vue of last season
Got rid of the wrong striker imo— Mr Kuntz (@MrKuntz2) August 11, 2019
Really hope this isn’t a repeat of last season, already out of the top 10 for conversion rate yet 1st for chances created ????

Can we not looks like a repeat of last season

Same old issues shots on target and conversion rate. Not surprising with the same players as last year.

And it looks as if a lot of them were pinning their hopes on one man to come in and fix it all, new signing Eddie Nketiah.
Same issue as last season hopefully Eddie is the answer!

That conversion rate will be over 50% when Eddie Nketiah is up top

The fact is, with that conversion rate Leeds have no chance of promotion at all…! Get Eddie on the pitch right away!!
