Leeds United captain David Healy has now left the club as expected; joining up with former international boss Lawrie Sanchez as he builds what appears to be a team of Ulstermen.
With Leeds decline into administration, and ultimately relegation into The Football League One, it was always very likely that Healy would be leaving the club. Whilst it`s fairly obvious that Leeds United supporters can`t really blame the player for leaving, they may have expected more from a striker who has recently broken the all-time goal scoring record for Northern Ireland.
After his move from Preston in 2004, Healy scored 31 goals in 121 appearances for The Whites, averaging out at 0.25 goals per game. This is stark contrast to his international record of 29 goals in 56 games or 0.52 goals per game, ultimately firing N.Ireland all the way to a position that may just see the nation qualify for the 2008 European Championships.
Talking to the official Fulham FC website, Healy said: “Obviously I know Lawrie Sanchez well and through his time as Manager of Northern Ireland he has given me a lot of support, so I`m really looking forward to playing under him in the Premiership. It was a disappointing end to my time at Leeds with the club being relegated and I wish them well for the future.”
