Dennis Wise has moved swiftly to replace the outgoing Gus Poyet by employing his former boss Dave Basset.

It was announced today that Basset would be joining Leeds on a fixed-term contract until the end of the season, a move that may suggest that Wise is using the former Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest manager as a stop-gap, allowing him time to find a longer term alternative during the close season.

Speaking to Leedsunited.com, Wise said: ‘I’m delighted that ‘Harry’ has agreed to join Leeds United. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having been there, seen it and done it.

‘We know each other well, having worked together before, and I’m looking forward to working with him again.

‘We’ve had a good start to the season and Harry is keen to play his part in helping us move further forward, based on the foundations that we have already laid.’

It should be noted that ‘been there, seen it and done it’ may not be a great thing, as Basset has experienced relegation a number of times during his management spells, most notably as a man who took Nottingham Forest out of the Premier League, back into it, only to set them well on their way to relegation once more in 1998 before his dismissal. His last job in management was as joint-caretaker manager with Wise at Southampton, covering the time in-between the outgoing Jim Smith, and the incoming George Burley

In light of this development, a new poll has been created; it’s quite a simple one too! We want to judge the opinion of you, the Leeds fans regarding the announcement that Dave Bassett is joining us.
