Crewe’s Gain is Leeds Utd’s Loss?

Anthony Elding is ‘improving all the time’ according to Crewe boss Steve Holland, as Vital Leeds wonders, have we made a summer-window error?

Having rejected the Railwaymen in January, Elding finally made his move to South Cheshire this summer in a deal that cost our League One rivals £300,000 and it appears that the man may well be set, alongside Calvin Zola, to become legends in their own right.

Following 90 minutes play during Crewe’s 2-1 over local ‘rivals’ (well, they are local anyway) Nantwich Town, boss Holland told crewealex.net:

‘It was good to see Anthony get through the 90 minutes on Monday night. It is something he desperately needed because he hasn’t played that much football since the end of last season.

‘He didn’t start many games at Leeds for whatever reason and he needs games at the moment. Ever since he has arrived, Anthony has been excellent in training. He has worked very hard on his fitness and has shown real quality in his finishing.

‘We know we have brought a goal scorer and Anthony just needs a bit of time to regain his overall match sharpness We knew that when he came to us pretty late in the summer but he isn’t too far off and could well be involved on Saturday.’

Elding never really got a chance at Leeds United following his move, and it was a shame in my opinion to see him go, especially whilst the likes of Tresor Cone-Dol remain on the squad list.
