Kevin Blackwell had hoped Richard Cresswell could play on until the end of the season, but the 29-year-old suffered a setback in training last Friday.

Cresswell could be ruled out for the next six weeks after undergoing surgery on a cartilage problem.

The former Preston forward will have his knee cartilage either shaved or stitched up, but Blackwell has refused to rule him out for the rest of the campaign and hopes to have him back in action within a month.
