Leeds youngster Charlie Cresswell is set to join Championship side Millwall on a season long loan according to LondonSportsOnline.

‘Millwall agree loan terms for Leeds United prospect Charlie Cresswell with medical due to take place next week’

The London club have been active already in transfer window, breaking their club record with the £1.7million signing of Zian Flemming from Fortuna Sittard as well as permanent deals for George Honeyman and striker Benik Afobe.  They are set to bring in talented Leeds centre back Cresswell after a medical is completed.

Preston born Cresswell, son of former Leeds striker Richard Cresswell, is a big, strong physical defender who has a no nonsense style of play.  He is certainly comfortable with the ball at his feet and he is well versed at bursting up the field with the ball and linking the play from the defence to midfield and attack. He is a real danger in the air and is a handful for the opposition in both boxes.

He has made some great performances for Leeds, the games against Wolves and West Ham are the more recognised.  His handling of Michail Antonio was suberb.  We all know how strong and physical he is and Cresswell did very well to keep him quiet.

This could be a great move for Cresswell to get some game time, after only seven senior appearances last season, minutes have been limited at Elland Road for the 19 year old.  Leeds have players in abundance in his position and he is down the pecking order behind Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk, Diego Llorente, and Robin Koch and he has been forced to sit on the bench most of the season.  He certainly has the attributes to become a first team regular with The Whites and a section of fans want him to be included in the first team this season.  It has also been suggested he could one day become club captain.

The Lions have moved quickly to secure his services for this coming season, and we all know how long and tough the Championship is.  Cresswell will certainly thrive in it and it will be interesting to see how he develops with regular game time.  The deal should be complete within a few days after the player returns from his summer break.
