Pontus Jansson has left the building. The imposing Swedish defender has signed for Brentford on a three-year deal, with the Bees holding an option for a fourth, while Leeds banked a reported £5.5million plus add-ons for the 28-year-old.

Marcelo Bielsa thought it was time to cut ties with the 21-cap international following a complete breakdown in their relationship, and once again put the team as a collective above the needs of the individual.

The ‘side before self’ ethos the Argentine imposes has sparked a bit of debate on Reddit, though, as some of the Elland Road faithful have pointed out that other corners of the fanbase were furiously lamenting the potential of Jansson moving on before realising that the boss had given his blessing to his departure, even to a fellow Championship side.

Some fans then turned from echoing a ‘side before self’ ethos to ‘in Bielsa we trust’, which other supporters have taken issue with, as the 63-year-old has flaws like anyone else, and some of his decisions last season may have cost us our place in the automatic promotion spots to Norwich City and Sheffield United.

But the main caused of anger from those questioning the ‘in Bielsa we trust’ philosophy is that the club was around long before the Argentine or Jansson, and will, hopefully, be around long after both retire.

As for those supporting the boss and his methods, they have been defending the ‘in Bielsa we trust’ corners of the fanbase as the Argentine took a mid-table United side and turned them into title contenders for much of the season. He brought hope back to Elland Road after years of dismay.

Here’s what these Whites supporters have shared…

Anyone starting to get a bit tired of the “In Bielsa We Trust” excuse and the idea he cannot be questioned? from r/LeedsUnited
