Many Leeds United fans have torn into Kalvin Phillips for his display in Sunday’s 5-4 win at Birmingham City, which lifted the club to the top of the Championship table.

We took the lead early into proceedings at the weekend when Helder Costa and Jack Harrison struck the back of the Blues’ net in the opening 21-minutes, though Pep Clotet’s men would rally back to level the game shortly after the break.

Later strikes from Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas regained the lead before they would see their efforts equalled out, but a Wes Harding own goal deep in stoppage-time ensured we capitalised on West Bromwich Albion losing 2-0 at home to Middlesbrough.

Only Liam Cooper saw more of the ball than Phillips on Sunday as we dug deep to beat Birmingham, with the 24-year-old midfielder enjoying seven per cent of all time in possession as he recorded 67 touches, per WhoScored data.

Phillips also dropped back into defence when needed to try and offer Cooper, Ben White and Luke Ayling some extra support, yet has come in for some criticism on social media as he failed to dominate his duties.

How would you describe Phillips' performance at Birmingham?

Phillips won three of his six ground duels on Sunday and five of his six aerial battles, though lost possession 21 times, was dribbled past twice, and committed one foul, per Sofa Score figures.

The 5 ft 10 anchor also misplaced eight of his 12 crosses, ten of his 40 total passes and 56% of his corner deliveries, but did register one key pass, found a teammate with each of his six long balls and blocked three shots.

Here are some of the messages shared on Phillips’ performance against Birmingham…

In other Leeds United news, a second club have entered the race to land a 5 ft 6 Whites man in January.
