It’s fair to say Kalvin Phillips had a mare against Swansea City and for a variety of reasons manager Marcelo Bielsa took him off ahead of the half-hour mark in that game, but the 22-year-old was back with a bang last weekend as we travelled to Norwich City’s Carrow Road.
Taking a pretty comfortable 3-0 victory on the day with goals coming from Mats Klich, Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez, according to statistics website Whoscored it was a close run race for Man of the Match, but they gave it to Phillips with a rating of 8.06.
71 touches, three aerials won and a pass accuracy of 87.2 also saw him defensively contribute three tackles, three interceptions, ten clearances and four blocked shots across the game to make him our star man in their eyes.
All of our starting eleven received ratings of 7 or above and joining Phillips in the top four were Barry Douglas (8.05), Allioski (8.03) and Hernandez (8.03). Klich completed the top five with 7.93 for his own efforts on the day.
The perfect response from Phillips after the previous game and not only does it show a good mentality from the man, I guess it reflects whatever explanation he received from Bielsa and the words he had in his ear which bodes well for the future.
