He’s not going anywhere.

That seemed to be the message that Alex Bruce wanted to get across when talking about Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips. Speaking to Football Insider, the former Leeds defender gave his view on why he thinks that the midfielder won’t be going anywhere in the summer:

“He’s clearly passionate about the club, you can see that the way he marches around the pitch at the end of games. He’s got a good relationship with the supporters, he’s a Leeds lad and if you’re a Leeds lad playing in the Premier League, why would you want to go anywhere else?

There’s just one small problem with what Bruce is saying. What happens if Leeds don’t go up?

It’s obvious that there are a lot of people who see him as a Premier League talent, the fact that you’ve got some of the big hitters in the division chasing him should be evidence of that. Add that to the fact that he has even been considered for an England call-up and you get the sense that he is going to be in the Premier League next season regardless of whether or not Leeds United go up.

Is Phillips ready to play for England?

Yes

Yes

No

But it’s the ‘if they don’t go up part’ that should really be worrying the fanbase. Whilst it’s well known that Phillips is a United fan, there can only be so much that the heartstrings can hold him back before the chance to advance his career takes over, just look at Wayne Rooney going from Everton to Manchester United.

So if this love affair between Phillips and the fans wants to continue, then there’s only one way to go about it, and that’s to get the job done.
