Leeds midfielder Eirik Bakke and defender Gary Kelly are the only two senior players left on United’s books from the five years ago when Leeds reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

And Bakke is dreaming of a brighter future for the club as they are just 90 minutes away from the Premiership.

Bakke joined Leeds for £1.75million from Sogndal in the summer of 1999.

Bakke: ‘This will be one of the biggest matches I will have been involved in with Leeds.

‘I’ve played in a Champions League semi-final, and a UEFA Cup semi-final, but this is a different game.

‘It’s just massive for the club, particularly after what has happened because there’s been so much change.

‘I still think about it at times, but you can’t look back. You have to look forward.

‘Things happen so quickly in football, but at least it’s good Leeds are no longer on the front pages.

‘Whatever happens Sunday, we know we’re going in the right direction because we have come a long way in the last couple of years.

‘We’ve had our ups and downs, a new team has been put together, and now hopefully we can help Leeds back into the Premiership.

‘It would be important, not just for me and Kells, but the club and the fans.

‘To play again against the big boys at Elland Road, that’s what we want to do.’
