Many Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media to a ‘horrible’ throwback to the 2013/14 Championship season.

Brian McDermott’s Whites began the term unbeaten in our first four games and despite a dire run of matches throughout September, entered December a point outside the Play-Off places having won eight of our 17 league fixtures.

But things soon fell apart for McDermott and his men after being held to a goalless draw at home to Barnsley, which spawned the phrase ‘we don’t do derbies’ at Elland Road.

Five days later and United had ‘we don’t do away games’ when held to a 1-1 draw at Blackpool, even though the result was enough to claw inside the top-six on Boxing Day.

However the Play-Off places soon become a distant dream, when four defeats in a row left the club in 12th-place and losing at Rochdale in the FA Cup saw the Whites eliminated in the Third Round for the third time in four years.

A 2-0 defeat at Rochdale also brought another phrase to West Yorkshire: ‘we don’t do the FA Cup’ – joining ‘we don’t do Christmas’ after losing 2-1 at Nottingham Forest and ‘we don’t do New Year’s’ after Blackburn Rovers won 2-1 at Elland Road.

Emotions did not improve when Sheffield Wednesday destroyed McDermott’s side at Hillsborough on January 11, either, with the 6-0 thrashing bringing about the term ‘we don’t do professional football’.

Do you fear a repeat collapse this season?

Yes

No

A 1-0 loss at home to Leicester City would follow to round out a miserable January under McDermott, yet things were far from over as we would take just one win in 12 between February 11 and April 8 whilst losing nine times.

United would end the season 15th in the table, 15 points off sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion and 45 points down on runaway title winners Leicester City.

In other Leeds United news, the club have reportedly lodged a bid to steal a 5 ft 5 talent away from an interested side already in talks with his agent.
