David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported that Manchester City have reached agreement with Leeds United to sign Kalvin Phillips.

The fee is reported to be £42m + 3m, a fee perhaps lower than many on Leeds’ side would have been expecting for the 26-year-old, who has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.

It is also understood that Darko Gyabi will be going the other way in a deal worth £5m. He is an 18-year-old midfielder whose transfer is being negotiated separately to the deal for Kalvin Phillips. Gyabi is an England under-18 international and racked up 1 goal and 3 assists in 10 appearances in the PL2 last season.

Gyabi would not be any part of Marsch’s plans to replace Phillips, as he plays further forward: predominantly a centre midfielder, he can also be utilised as an attacking midfielder.
