Leeds United fans are well aware of Gaetano Berardi’s ability to see red, even when it’s not deserved, and his rash streak has often left people questioning whether the 31-year-old could be relied upon.
In more recent times plenty of pundits have been debating his future given he’s out of contract next summer, and as of yet there is no new deal to speak about and that has spanned into whether we’d look to replace him if we achieved our aim and secured promotion back to the Premier League.
For all his doubters though, manager Marcelo Bielsa continues to call on him when needed and on Tuesday evening he put in exactly the type of performance we know that he’s capable of, as we took all three points from Hull City to return to the top of the Championship table.
Given how easily he comes in for criticism at points, it was nice to see him get the plaudits as fans reacted to the win on social media following the game.
Thought Berardi was spot on last night, looked assured on the ball. But most importantly, defended when had to immensely.

He's had to mark players 2 foot taller than him last 2 games and not let us down. Good lad

Gaetano Berardi was immense last night. He may be rash at times, but he gives everything everytime hes in a Leeds shirt. Plays wherever hes asked, no ego and just gives it all for leeds. I would love to see him get a contract extension. He deserves it. #lufc #leeds @LUFC

After all the stick he got when wrongly sent off against Millwall, I can even begin to explain how chuffed I am for Berardi right now. He still has passion and fight in abundance, but his play and discipline are unrecognisable these days. Outstanding tonight imho. ππ #lufc pic.twitter.com/UWFbi2wQTi

Got to say that although Berardi bleeds Leeds, I'm not his biggest fan, but jesus he was quality tonight. Well played sir ππ»ππ»ππ» #LUFC #MOT
