Following calls from all corners for Blackwells head, the Leeds manager has been speaking about his and his chairman’s views on the recent on-the-field problems at Elland Road.

Blackwell told skysports.com: ‘Me and the chairman have talked and he knows what I’m doing and I know what he’s doing and we’re just getting on with it,

‘We know what the plan for the football club is and that the two of us would have to stick together when things got tough and we’d also have to do things for the football club.

‘We’ve had to rein our ambitions in at times and we’ve thought big at other times – that’s when we got the four players in last season, this season we haven’t been able to do that so we’ve taken a rain-check on our ambitions.

‘But there’s still a buzz about the place. The players here are as honest as the day is long and came at a time when many players wouldn’t have come here.

‘I couldn’t even guarantee their wages, but they know how big this club is and know what’s expected of them – and recent results have hurt.’
