Kevin Blackwell praised American winger Eddie Lewis for sparking his side into life to record a great 3-0 victory at Home Park.
Leeds extended their winning streak across the holiday programme to four matches out of four and closed the gap on second placed Sheffield United to eight points.
Blackwell: ‘In the second half I thought Eddie’s quality was something else. We had a little chat at half-time. I wanted him to be more aggressive going forward, taking people on and delivering crosses – and he produced exactly what I asked.’
Lewis set up Richard Cresswell for the opening goal on 52 minutes after home keeper Romain Larrieu had pushed Liam Miller’s strike away for a corner.
Plymouth failed to clear and Lewis drove the ball back in for Cresswell to apply the finishing touch with a glancing header.
On the hour, Leeds forged further ahead to take a stranglehold on the game.
Lewis did well down the left and sent over a superb cross which Robbie Blake crashed in at the far post for his sixth goal of the season. Larrieu got a hand to the ball could not keep it out.
The French keeper then did well to deflect a Cresswell diving header – from a Lewis cross – but could do little about Leeds’ third goal.
Central defender Mat Doumbe felled on loan Manchester United midfielder Miller and substitute Rob Hulse, on as a late replacement for Blake, roofed home the resultant spotkick.
Blackwell: ‘We knew it was going to be tough early doors and it was because Argyle have been on a bit of a run lately, did well at Wolves and got a great result at Cardiff.
‘We knew the first half hour would be tight but after that we started to assert ourselves.
‘You could see we started to get a head of steam up in the first half, we had one or two chances.
‘To come here and quieten the crowd was the first thing I wanted to do – and I thought we did that very professionally.’
