Leeds manager Kevin Blackwell paid tribute to his players after they reached the play-off final but said he wasn’t convinced it would be Watford in the final. Leeds got there courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Preston.

The first match at Elland Road ended 1-1 but they clinched a place at Cardiff thanks to second-half goals from Rob Hulse and Frazer Richardson at Deepdale.

Blackwell: ‘I’m extremely proud. The lads were fantastic tonight – they showed true grit and determination to get through here.

‘I said before we had to be solid and strong and not try to make too much of a game of it… and we did that.

‘We’ll see who we get. Watford lead 3-0 but it isn’t over yet.
