In a bizarre world, when Portsmouth are sniffing about the Rangers gaffa before he gets sacked … there could be a twist.

If Neil Warnock jumps ship, as he still remains Pompey’s first choice, newspapers report Blackwell is emerging as Sheffield United’s top target.

I have to admit, I find it hard to believe they would have the nerve to even think about it, but ‘God loves a trier’ as they say.

Jumping the gun, perhaps, but the Sheffield United board have supposedly drawn up a list of potential replacements … just in case.

Blackwell, who has seven months remaining on his Elland Road contract, was Sheffield United’s head coach for seven seasons before he moved to Leeds in the summer of 2003 and is still a firm favourite with Bramall Lane supporters.
