Bielsa keen to add £4.05m-rated international to Leeds ranks, deal expected this summer – report

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa is keen to strike a deal with Queens Park Rangers for their Australian international midfielder Massimo Luongo, according to London Football News.

Championship promotion rivals Nottingham Forest are also keen to sign the 26-year-old this summer, after the R’s midfielder struck three goals and was credited with four assists during his 41 second-tier appearances in the recent term.

Rangers are expected to try and cash in on the 5 ft 7 central midfielder this summer due to his contract expiring next year, and the feeling emerging from Loftus Road is that he is unlikely to sign a new deal because of the wage structure now in place in West London.

West London Sport recently noted that Luongo faces the prospect of a pay cut if he were to stay with QPR going forward, as their financial situation means they cannot afford to renew his deal on his current terms, or better.

While TransferMarkt value the Tottenham Hotspur product at £4.05million following four seasons at Loftus Road, neither West London Sport nor London Football News have indicated how much Rangers would be looking to make on the midfielder this summer, although both note a lot of interest.

It’s claimed that Leeds and Forrest are particularly showing a keen interest on the 42-cap international, with both clubs weighing up a move for someone who has performed consistently well throughout his time in West London.

London Football News also claim Whites boss Bielsa would like to make a move for QPR’s Luke Freeman this summer as well, but expect the 27-year-old to move to Premier League new boys Sheffield United.
