Leeds United were left sweating after the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest as Luke Ayling picked up what appeared to be a serious injury.
With defensive choices already slim for Marcelo Bielsa, the setback for Ayling is another blow to the Peacocks’ promotion charge and the club issued an update on the 27-year-old on Monday – confirming his absence.
Leeds are set to be without their influential man for the next two months and, although that is a major setback, many fans on social media were relieved to see that the update provided news that was nowhere near as bad as they initially feared.
Some believed they would not see Ayling until the end of the season and pointed out that January will be a crucial period in Bielsa’s promotion charge, as they provided a positive spin on what is a disappointing piece of news.
We have gathered some of the best reactions below.
Dont want to see him out but this is better than first feared expecting season ending. Like to see Shackleton in maybe with slight change of system

Think people need to calm down a little bit, could have been and looked a lot worse then 8 weeks! He’ll be back January when it’s the most critical time of the Season.

To be honest that’s a good result. Looked a season ender to me!

That’s not so bad, roll on January then.

Ill take that, it felt like a season ender at the time. Shackleton will hopefully get a chance there, he didn’t put a foot wrong v Swansea.

I’ll take that all day long. Could easily have been a season ender

I’ll take that all day long, thought it would be a 4-6 month job! Get back soon Bill! #lufc
