Left-back Olivier Bernard was all set to join Leeds, but chose to move to Newcastle United at the last minute.

Shaun Harvey said in a club Statement: ‘Leeds United had hoped to complete the signing of Olivier Bernard this morning, after waiting for the player to agree cancellation of his contract at Rangers.

‘Terms were agreed with the player for him to join Leeds this morning, subject only to him passing a medical, which was scheduled to take place at 9.30am today.

‘The player has since reneged on the agreement reached last night, and joined Newcastle United. We are, both disappointed and relieved, as we would have very much liked Olivier Bernard to strengthen our squad, but if he did not want to play for Leeds United it is better to find out now, as we are only interested in players who are fully committed to the club.’

Hopefully Leeds will be able to find another left-back soon, as Stephen Crainey has been looking shakey this season.
