Leeds United started their League One campaign this afternoon at Elland Road against Exeter.

They gave debuts to all four summer signings Shane Higgs, Jason Crowe, Patrick Kisnorbo and Mike Doyle.

Leeds started on the front foot, two corners early on and a header from Becchio which tested the keeper.

Beckford also had an early chance but got the ball caught under his feet when in a good position.

Beckford did work they keeper soon after, Jones saving down low.

Almost within a minute Beckford flashed another effort just wide of the post with the help of a deflection.

Beckford who scored 34 goals last season soon started his goal run for this season, some great work from Ben Parker set up Beckford who cooly slotted home.

Exeter had to wait till over half way through the first half for their first chance but Corr wasted an excellent chance.

Beckford was giving the Exeter defence all sorts of headaches and his next chance, a header hit the cross bar.

Ben Parker was replaced on the half hour by Andy Hughes and the young left back went straight down the tunnel for assistance with a injury he must have picked up.

Leeds went in one goal to the good at half time but there was signs of Exeter getting into the game nearing the half time whistle.

Jason Crowe should have doubled the lead but his effort went straight at the keeper when he should have done better.

A slower start to the second half, Jermaine Beckford had Leeds best chance early on when he treid to chip the keeper but his effort cleared the bar.

Exeter were reduced to ten men when Barry Corr was shown a red card for what looked like dissent on the hour.

Exeter drew level totally against the run of play when Alex Russell fired past Shane Higgs from a free kick.

Leeds took the lead again when Jermaine Beckford finally scored his second of the afternoon after missing a host of chances with only two minutes remaining.

The referee added on four minutes of added time which Leeds saw out easily and claim their first three points of the season.
