Leeds United have pulled off what may be a massive coup in signing former Barcelona and Bocca Juniors forward Luciano Becchio.

Becchio has been on trial at Leeds from Spanish Second Division side Merida and after a couple of pre-season friendly games, has clearly done enough to convince boss Gary McAllister that he is worth taking a risk on.

Luciano, who scored 28 goals in 50 games last season for Merida, signs a 3-year contract, much to the delight of Gary Mac:

‘We were very keen to get him in and he will be a real threat for us,’ McAllister told leedsunited.com.

‘I’ve been pleased with what I’ve seen of him in the games and, although he is lacking in match fitness, he realises that and we still have 10 days before the season starts. He is working hard.’

‘He’s got a good instinct, he’ll be dangerous, and along with Jermaine, Enoch, Robert Snodgrass, and Andy Robinson, it gives us five offensive players who will also allow us to make little changes in shape.’

Becchio, is he set to be a hit or a miss? Have your say now in our new poll!
