Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says the appointment of new manager Neil Warnock is the most important one they have made.

Bates feels they have appointed the man who can lead Leeds back into the Premier League, someone with a proven track record. Speaking on the official website, Bates said, “We believe the appointment is arguably the most important we have made.

“The objective is was to appoint a manager with a proven track record of getting teams promoted and in Neil we have a man whose record is second to none .”

Warnock replaces Simon Grayson as boss at Elland Road with the club still in with a chance of reaching the end of season play offs, something Warnock knows all about after.

The 63 year old has won promotion via the play offs on four occasions and he has enjoyed seven promotions in his career, a record only equalled by Graham Taylor and Dave Bassett.

Warnock led Queens Park Rangers to the Championship title last season and he has also led Sheffield United into the Premier League when they finished the season as runners up in 2005/06.
