Since appointing Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager, there have been countless reports from the English press suggesting that the experienced Argentine manager will wield the axe at Elland Road, and allow several players to seek pastures new. One such player is Paudie O’Connor.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, as cited by Inside Futbol, Marcelo Bielsa is prepared to allow the promising starlet the opportunity to receive consistent first-team involvement elsewhere this season. The 20-year-old made his breakthrough last season, following a defensive injury crisis for the Whites, and it seems that the club are keen for the Irishman to continue his development on loan.

O’Connor began his career with Limerick in Ireland, and he made 46 appearances for the Irish side, scoring a commendable total of four goals before making the switch to Leeds United. When deputising for Leeds last season, it was clear that O’Connor was a competent defender, one who is endowed with considerable promise.

Despite his talent, and demonstration of his ability to play at Championship level, given his age, it’s likely that O’Connor would be reduced to a bit-part role if he decided to stay at Leeds. The best thing for his progression would be to receive continuous first-team involvement, which will empower him with the ability to attain greater experience and grow in confidence and stature. A loan move is the best solution for the centre-back.
