With strong links on the rumour mill in recent days suggesting that Leeds United were chasing a deal for RB Leipzig striker Jean-Kevin Augustin, it seems that significant progress has been made this weekend and although no deal is yet rubber stamped, it sounds like it’s likely to go through early next week.

Amidst some claims in the press late on Saturday evening claiming that a deal had been agreed, reliable, and now Athletic journalist, Phil Hay had this to offer earlier on Sunday.

Despite the 22-year-old attacker only finding the net once in his games for Monaco so far this year, his loan spell with them has only seen five starts and most of his action has been off the bench, but his goalscoring record elsewhere is pretty impressive. This could certainly be quite a coup if we could get the deal over the line and although most expect him to simply play backup to Patrick Bamford, he’d certainly be an interesting alternative option.

Let’s see if Monday’s reported medical goes ahead.
