With Leeds United fans being upbeat about the potential new contract for key midfielder Kalvin Phillips at Elland Road, this weekend saw significant developments on that front as Phil Hay wasn’t the only member of the press to announce that he believed a deal had now been officially agreed, and it was just a matter of getting the paperwork signed, with the subsequent announcements to the fans.
Now writing for The Athletic, Hay wasn’t the only one to be making claims of agreement on a new five year deal for the 23-year-old and a possible wage boost up to £20,000 a week.
Plenty of others, such as The Daily Mail were claiming similar.
The expectation is his new deal will be rubber-stamped this week, and possibly as early as Monday and given all the summer shenanigans that surrounded his future when it came to the rumour mill, the sooner the better really from our point of view.
It was certainly welcomed news on social media as Hay announced it.
Here's to the next 5 Mr Phillips! Future England star
