Leeds United’s U23s are through to the next round of the Premier League Cup, and these fans cannot get enough of their “impressive” performance against Newcastle United.
The Monday night tie saw Carlos Corberan’s boys emerge 3-1 victors at Guiseley’s Nethermoor Park, thanks to a Ryan Edmondson brace and a 60th-minute strike by Pascal Struijk.
All three points secured the top spot in Group H, as the visitors went into the clash ahead of the Whites on 11 points, but slipped to second place at the full-time whistle.
With two to his name, Edmondson was one of the standout performers of the game and earned individual praise on social media following his brace, while also catching the eye as he led from the front and continually harried the opposition backline.
Clarke Odour also stood out from the 14 to feature, with the small crowd gifted to a few pieces of individual skill that led to Edmondson’s opening goal via a neatly threaded through ball.
Leeds Live’s player rankings noted the importance Mateusz Bogusz is displaying in his short spell with the U23s, claiming the Polish youngster was “still refining his place as a cog in this wider machine Carlos Corberan has created, but when it clicks it’s devastating”.
The praise for the lads flowed onto social media…
It’s a shame we’re almost into March where you can’t tinker with much. Would love to see Diaz, Edmondson, Hosannah, Kun get more minutes with the seniors. #LUFC https://t.co/l6TkAEA3IT

Real mature performance tonight from Leeds u23s, win means we move onto the next round of the Premier Cup. Edmondson MOTM for me. First assist for Bogusz at Leeds in just his second game. #lufc

They had to win and they have! Leeds U23s beat Newcastle 3-1 at Guiseley thanks to a brace from Edmondson and a strike from Struijk. United qualify for the next stage of the PL Cup after winning the group! Edmondson superb tonight, he’s an absolute nuisance in the box. #lufc

What a great effort. Also a high pressure game for them too against tougher opposition and they’ve came out winners. Bodes well for future.

No first team regulars like Dallas, Berardi and Douglas, even more impressive
