“A very good Premier League player”: Leeds United told to seal deal for former target

|

Alex Bruce believes that Leeds United should go all-out to sign Harry Wilson in the coming months, with the winger expected to leave Liverpool permanently.

The Welsh international is highly thought of at Anfield but Jurgen Klopp has plenty of players in front of Wilson in the pecking order, so game time has been almost impossible to come by. As a result, Wilson has spent the past two years out on loan, starring with Derby County in the previous campaign before joining Bournemouth for this season.

And, despite the Cherries struggles, the 23-year-old has done reasonably well, scoring six goals in 23 games, although it doesn’t seem to be enough to convince Liverpool he deserves a place in their squad next season. Therefore, reports have claimed he will be on the move and they also say the financial climate right now means he could be available for around £12.5m – half of what the Reds had wanted before.

Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

If that’s the case, Bruce told Football Insider that Leeds, who have been linked with Wilson in the past, should go for someone who he believes has proven he can cut it in the top-flight.

I think he’s a very good Premier League player, I think he’s a good prospect and he can only get better. He’s obviously got great free-kick ability and he’s a huge threat from around the box. I think if Leeds are going to get back in the Premier League and dive into the transfer market, they need proven Premier League players.

I think Harry’s turned into one of those with the clubs he’s been at and the performances he’s given.”

Bielsa had personally scouted Wilson before he ended up at Bournemouth this season, but the prospect of testing himself in the Premier League meant it would always be a struggle to land the player.

Of course, Leeds expect to be mixing it with the best in the country next season, as they currently hold a seven point lead over third-placed Fulham and a return to the top-flight could see a busy summer at Elland Road.
