The Marcelo Bielsa rumours are certainly interesting, aren’t they?

Can I see it? I’m not sure to be honest but I certainly think it’d be a massive statement if we got him.

Make no mistake, he is one of the biggest names in the coaching game at the moment and his reputation certainly needs no introduction.

He’s well rated by the likes of Pep Guardiola for crying out loud, so there is evidently something about him more than your average manager.

Can he, though, get a performance out of Jay-Roy Grot?

He’s managed Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez as pointed out – but can he deal with Jay-Roy?

The Verdict

Okay, so perhaps this is not the toughest question Bielsa will have to answer if he arrives but there’s certainly a case to suggest he’d have a job on.

Grot and others have been poor so far and so to get them up to scratch would take some real coaching.

    • Agreed. The Championship would not suit this guy. Clearly was a good coach, but has had little success in the last few years. And when he flounces out in November who on earth will we get then ? And though I totally agree we need to clear out a lot of substandard players, remember that our director of football thought they were all good enough, so he’ll only bring in more of the same, this time from South America and Mexico rather than Europe. And they will have the same problems with the Championship. And then there’s the little issue of whether any of our current players, even the good ones, can play a 3,3,3,1 formation. We have less than 8 weeks to totally change lifetime playing habits ? Don’t see that working. Can we honestly afford another embarrassing 2 month manager ? Because I really fear that’s what we’re heading for. MOT

  • I think there will be a massive clear out. Grot, Ekuban, De Brook, Weidlans, Lonnegan, Anita, Euan, Dallas, Pennington, Cooper, Cibiki would all need to prove themselves to any new man, but in my fantasy football world, these would be all be sold or loaned out.
Hopefully the next manager could work on the basics too like ball control and keeping it rather than the usual poor first touch leading to possession being conceded.

  • Bielsa would be a magnificent capture. Finally some ambition shown. Regardless of Orta being there he will hopefully be given a chance to bring in players he likes. This could be the serious shake up we need. This bloke won’t stand for sub par performances. MOT

Pennington was a loan player ????
    He is back at Everton!

  • Appontment a disaster?? What a knob its a master stroke!! Other teams are already green with envy!!! Get him in he is exactly what we need at last a manager with experience!! Mick McCarthy isnt in same class. Give the guy a war chest worth while sell the shit like o kane grot ekuban de brock cooper cibiski sakho etc and any money raised add that to his spend then…. sit back hold tight for quality experienced players… come on next season

  • He’ll spend about a week looking at the players we’ve got, then walk away in disgust- just like the 1000s of season ticket holders.
