Well, that was awful, but also somewhat expected. Wolves are on another level to us, and our squad`s weaknesses were cruelly exposed yet again.

The ineptitude of our summer recruitment combined with our opponent`s vastly superior resources to make for a very lob sided contest that could in truth have been worse than the 3-0 scoreline we ended up with. So, what can we take away from last night`s comprehensive defeat?

1) Multiple failings across the pitch

A lack of creativity in central midfield, a loss of solidity in defence, and weaknesses on the flanks; all of these were exposed against quality opposition.

Adam Forshaw will surely play an important role next season, but who will partner him is anyone`s guess. Kalvin Phillips certainly didn`t stake a claim for a place, and with Samu our only creative outlet, there was very little joy in the final third. Lasogga was feeding off scraps, and Heckingbottom must allow the team to play with more freedom between now and the end of the season.

The defence was probably more concerning though. Our failure to deal with set pieces, and a general lack of cohesion in the backline cannot be blamed on just one player. It didn`t help that our captain went off early, but even when he was on the pitch there was a lack of organisation. Berardi and Anita are certainly not long term solutions for the full back positions either, and recruits are desperately needed right across the back four.

2) Sacko has made Hecky`s mind up for him

The winger was given his chance, but I think it is safe to say that he didn`t impress our manager after being hauled off at half time. Our no.24 has never been that productive with goals or assists for us, but at least he could cause opponents some worries when running at their defence.

He did nothing for us last night, and I think it is safe to say that he will be offloaded in the summer, along with a number of other players who`ve failed to perform this season. It`s look like a hell of a rebuilding job.

3) The one bright spark

I though Hecky would be a bit more conservative, and keep Wiedwald in goal for this game, but he did decide to gamble on Peacock-Farrell. The 21 year old certainly impressed me, and a lot other supporters with his display. He made a number of important saves, and although he may have regretted coming out so quickly for Wolves` third, I think he did more than enough to warrant keeping his place for the Reading game.
