Rumours have emerged that Leeds United are interested in the services of Brentford defender, John Egan. Despite only being in West London for two seasons, the Irishman has performed admirably. Should the Whites sweep in and sign the 25-year-old?

As the Yorkshire Evening Post reports, Brentford’s John Egan has been viewed as a potential incoming for Leeds United, and his arrival could prove to be beneficial for Leeds United’s promotion prospects.

While many might anticipate the return of Kyle Bartley to Elland Road, it seems somewhat unlikely for Swansea to sell the defender to a divisional rival so soon after relegation. Accordingly, Egan could prove to be the most appropriate candidate.

During his second full season of Championship football, the Irish defender impressed having amassed a decent total of two goals for the Bees. In addition to his attacking talents, the 25-year-old is regarded for his proficient blocking ability and his unwavering concentration.

As has been established, the defender is a severe threat for opponents when attacking set-pieces. This is best reflected by his achievements at Gillingham, where he scored 13 goals in 90 games for the Gills – a stupendous record for a defender.

While the Irish defender is seen as having competent dribbling abilities, he isn’t afraid of clearing the ball when required.  One can envisage a potentially useful partnership between the Irishman and Pontus Jansson.

Having conceded a dismal total of 64 league goals in 46 games, it’s apparent that Leeds require defensive reinforcement to try and negate their weakness at the back. If the Whites are to return to the top-flight of English football successfully, then it’s crucial that they reinforce their defensive unit. John Egan could prove to be an intelligent signing as they look to bolster their defensive ranks.

What are your thoughts? Would Egan be a good signing? Let us know!
