£20m Leeds ace wanted in ‘insult’ cut-price deal, many fans react: ‘Such a vital part of our team’

Loads of Leeds fans have been reacting online to a report by the Telegraph, which suggested Aston Villa will test the Whites’ resolve with a low opening offer for Kalvin Phillips.

It was inevitable that some of the United first-team would be courted this summer given their immense performances during the 2018/19 Championship season, which unfortunately ended without promotion into the Premier League.

Villa, though, managed to turn their season around midway through the campaign to mount what proved to be a lethal Play-Off challenge, and secured a top-flight berth at Wembley last month.

The Birmingham-based outfit now allegedly intend to put their Play-Off prize money to good use by snapping up Phillips, who has emerged as one of Dean Smith’s top targets this summer.

We, supposedly, have slapped a £20million price tag on the defensive midfielder to try and ward off the threat of his exit in the weeks ahead, to which the Villains are seemingly reluctant to meet.

The Telegraph believe Smith will open negotiations over Phillips’ transfer with a £14million initial offer, having prioritised his position after losing Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak.

If Phillips does leave for Villa Park, he could be just one of a range of English players picking up sticks and moving to Birmingham, with the Claret and Blue side also in negotiations with AFC Bournemouth over a permanent deal for Tyrone Mings, and hope to beat the Cherries in the race for Stoke City’s Jack Butland.

When the Telegraph’s report of Smith’s interest in Phillips was shared on Reddit, this is how these Leeds fans reacted…
