It wasn’t a perfect Christmas period for Leeds United this time around. We went into Santa’s big day with a disappointing draw with Cardiff City and then a very frustrating defeat to Fulham. Boxing Day saw only a point from Preston, so few saw the Birmingham City performance coming.
It was a lively Sunday with goals from Helder Costa, Jack Harrison, Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas and an own goal, and it was a nervous end to the game as we just couldn’t shake off the hosts. The late own goal gave us all three points and it was enough to return us to the top of the Championship table as West Brom had struggles of their own.
Statistics website Whoscored didn’t have great player ratings given the way the game ebbed and flowed, but their Man of the Match went to Jack Harrison with a score of 8.51.
Completing the top five best performers in their eyes were Luke Ayling (7.94), Helder Costa (7.67), Ezgjan Alioski (7.56) and Kalvin Phillips (7.06).
Onto New Year’s Day and our trip to The Hawthorns, three points there would be a real marker in the battle at the top.
